Zombie essay free essay sample

Choices, decisions and regret all have a deep meaning and reason behind them. When someone has power it does not give them the right to chose for another, but we forget sometimes that the person means no harm. There can be many theories behind every wrong choice, it can be something we would not like to make, but in order for the sake of humanity. We are scared to tell people that they are infected and instead don’t tell them. Humans are emotional creatures and in our nature it is rude to tell someone you have no hope but to die. We all want a chance to start over but sometimes we don’t get the right choices to make. For example, you are the one in power and are given two choices to help save your people. Option 1 is to tell people that they are plagued by infectious diseases and to let them leave. Option 2 is to hide the fact they are infected and to let them die. Option 1 will save their lives, but the disease will spread and infect everyone even themselves. On the other hand, option 2 will save humanity but the infected group will have to be sacrificed. Which option would you choose? The walking dead episode six â€Å"TS-19† is the last episode of season one which was aired on December 5, 2010. Written by Frank Darabont and directed by Guy Ferland. The key characters in this episode are Rick, Shawn, Lori, Dale and Doctor Edwin Jenner. This episode starts off with an outbreak of zombies on their camp and they have nowhere else to go. Ricky talks to the group about leaving camp as it is no longer safe. Ricky knew that in the city there is a facility named C. D. C that was working on a cure. The group had no chance but to search for this facility, even though they heard a lot of things that C. D. C no longer exists. The group finally decides to travel in the city where C. D. C is their only hope. A far travel ahead of them, thousands of miles away till they reach to the city when the part of Doctor Edwin Jenner arrives. The doctor is alone working in the lab testing the dead zombie TS-19, when all of a sudden he accidently drops a tube filled with viruses and deadly chemicals that he tries to wipe with his gloves, but it’s too late. The doctor has to evacuate the room when the alert goes on and an automated computer repeats â€Å"Alert status, air qualifiers indicate corrosive fumes, all personal must clear the room†. As he bolts out the lab, decontamination occurs which destroys all of his research and â€Å"TS-19† samples. All his hard work is gone which leads him to be depressed with no hope.. The doctor is alone in the medical building with no one to talk to except the computer webcam, until the group finally arrives at C. D. C, which alerts the doctor that survivors are outside. The doctor’s intention was to not let anyone in and was hoping they would just leave, but seeing the group begging to open the door he finally lets them in. The group enters C. D. C, and goes into a blood test demanded by Doctor Edwin Jenner. Later, they enjoy the luxury given a hot shower, wine, meal and learn the story of Jenner. Shane and Lori have an argument which does not end well, and leaves a scratch on Shane’s neck. The next morning Jenner shows the group a video of test subject 19 who was bitten, which he was forced to shoot the patient until Dale notices a clock that is counting to zero which leads the group to slam away with questions. C. D. C is running out of gas and the building is programmed to self destruct by itself. Jenner refuses to open the doors and convinces the group they can have an easy death. Group tries to persuade Jenner to open the doors and the clock is ticking. Jenner finally opens the door and warns them that the main doors are locked in the ground floor. Carol then pulls out a grenade and gives it to Rick, who sets it against the glass and pulls the pin. Two of the group members decide to stay while the rest drive away and are back to reality, facing zombies. As in this episode Doctor Edwin Jenner chooses for the group to die, he convinces to the group that â€Å"you will feel no pain and it will be the end of sorrow, grief and regret†. The group all knew Dr. Edwin had the power to either let them go or stay. Instead the doctor indulges everyone to stay letting them know the disadvantages, that out there is a brutal and agonizing death. Why does he make everyone stay with him to die when he let everyone in C. D. C in the first place? In my opinion I think the doctor realized that there is no hope for them so why not let them die here peacefully. This choice was rather much inhuman and no one was expecting this from Doctor Edwin. This action of Doctor Jenner was a reaction to the earlier choice since he was all alone and after the lab incident he completely changed. As Freud’s theory â€Å"in every man there is beast inside him†. It was as if he became from being humble to the complete opposite. How can someone save your life but in the end act as if he is god and decide your death. Doctor Edwin Jenner might not have done what was morally right, but he may have done what was necessary. He was trying to choose what was best for the group; the doctor didn’t want the survivors to become one of the walkers but instead wanted the rest of them to die without any pain. After much convincing, Jenner opens the gate and whispers in Rick’s ear and I think he says your wife is pregnant†. Since he took the blood test he would know, the reason I think he tells rick so late is because his intention was to not let everyone go. The doctor probably thought he shouldn’t tell Rick since he was going to let them all die. Or instead, Jenner didn’t tell Rick that Lori is pregnant, he told him that everyone is infected and maybe that’s why he refused to open the door. Maybe if he told the group when the clock was clicking that all of you guys are infected and it’s too late to do anything, then I think the group would stay behind and accept their death. Jenner probably didn’t want the group to be disturbed knowing the fact that they are infected and have no choice but to die in C. D. C. There can be many reasons why Jenner didn’t want to open the door. Another theory on the whisper is that: Jenner saw Shane’s â€Å"rape attack† on Lori, when Shane came to her drunk there might be a camera in the recreation room which the Doctor saw, and that could be the whisper in Rick’s ear. I don’t think one should lose hope and commit suicide just because your wife dies. There is always hope we just have to be patient. According to Plato, he attributes that â€Å"To know the good is to do the good† and Jenner had no right to keep all of the people locked up like hostages. However, virtue overcomes his heart and the doctor finally lets them free, but what if they didnt make it out in time? I don’t think his wife would be proud of him for this inhuman selfish act. Although his intention was to let everyone die peacefully, because he knew the zombies will hunt them down sooner or later. The doctor could have tried to come up with a cure, but instead he decided to commit suicide by staying inside the building that was about to blow up. In the episode of â€Å"TS-19† Dr. Edwin Jenner is observing a zombie. This person who was bitten is no ordinary person. It is Dr Edwin Jenner’s wife, the one who ran the facility and was the most important person in the company. How would it feel to be testing your wife who has been bitten by a zombie? I would say that is quite rasping. That is more like a suicide decision; personally if it was my wife I would not be able to handle the pain. In this episode Jenner shoots his wife when she turns into a zombie after waking up from death. He shows a video to the group of the demonstration but doesnt mention it to the group that he had to kill his own wife. The question is why would he hide this decision? Why didn’t he just tell the group in the beginning that the person who was bitten was his own wife? If the group would knew it was Dr Jenner’s wife they wouldnt trust him anymore. If you could have the courage to kill your wife, theres no doubt he would do the same to anyone. In my opinion, I think anyone would have kept that a secret. There was a reason for the doctor to hide that part, how can someone tell a group of strangers that he just killed his own wife, but at the right moment when there is no time. The whole perspective would change if he told them earlier; the people would think he is crazy. In my theory, I think Jenner didn’t want to live because of what happened in the lab incident. It wasn’t just about the important samples he lost but he was testing the samples of TS-19, Jenner accidently spilled some of the test tubes which he tried wiping it with his own hands and he felt a sting on his gloves. His gloves started to melt off his fingers and as he quickly took off the gloves he escaped the laboratory when decontamination occurred. In my theory that was the whole twist of Doctor Edwin Jenner to stay inside the building waiting for the clock to stop along with everyone else. Why would Jenner want to die such a death if he had so many chances to come up with a cure? So I think that’s why he decided to stay behind along with others since he is infected. In my opinion deep down inside, Jenner’s intention was for the well being for everyone because he didn’t want the rest of the group to turn into a zombies. A man must serve humanity and help others no matter what, but we live in a world where people are under a load of obligations of every kind (Auguste Comte). As The great known philosopher Thomas Hobbes, said that the right of nature of each man has to use his own power as he will himself for the preservation of his own nature. The choices made by Doctor Edwin Jenner might not be morally right, but he may have done what was necessary. I do not feel that when he refused to open the doors Jenner’s decision were selfish, cold hearted, or even cruel. He had a tough decision to make, although he did convince them to stay to die, but in the end he did what was the right choice, by letting them go. In my opinion the whisper in Rick’s ear was the whole twist in the episode and the true reasons behind Jenner to not let them go. In my opinion when Rick tells Jenner â€Å"your wife did not have a choice to start over, we do†, that is when Jenner realizes his choice is cruel and selfish.
